No. All of my puppies are limited AKC (pet only-no breeding rights) I do not sell my puppies for breeding because I have so many wonderful pet homes waiting for them.

Feel free to email me (furbournefarm@gmail.com) and introduce yourself telling me about yourself, your family, your current pets, your work, and past experience with rescue and/or with older dogs and what you are looking for in an adult as a pet if you are interested.

A Shih Tzu requires more than the average dog when it comes to grooming. Your pup should ideally be groomed every 4 to 8 weeks, while also being brushed daily to prevent mats and tangles, especially for those with long coats. The frequency depends on coat length and lifestyle. A professional grooming can cost anywhere from $60 - $90 depending on the options you choose.
For female puppies, the ideal time to get her spayed is around 5 to 6 months old, before her first heat cycle, to maximize health benefits and prevent mammary cancer.
For male puppies, the best time is ideally between 6 and 12 months old.
Embark Testing is a comprehensive DNA testing service for dogs that provides detailed information about a dog's genetic health, breed makeup, and traits.
Because of their heavy coats and short faces, Shih Tzu do not tolerate heat well and are not good swimmers. Most Shih Tzu are generally healthy, and responsible breeders screen their stock for health conditions such as hip dysplasia, patellar laxation (a slipped kneecap), eye anomalies including cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, retinal detachment, and corneal dryness and inflammation from excessive exposure to the air because of improperly closing eyelids. AKC does not recommend health test specific to the Shih Tzu breed at this time.
My breeding parents are seen by our local veterinarian regularly to ensure they are kept up-to-date on all the standard required vaccinations and testings. I also have my parents American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) eye examined for any abnormalities and certified by the Orthopedic Foundation For Animals, Inc. (OFA). At 2 years of age they are examined for patellar luxation and hip dysplasia and certified by OFA. Additionally, they are screened for 274 genetic health risks specific to the Shih Tzu breed by Embark.
